Politics in Motion

Designer & Podcast Producer

2024

POLITICS IN MOTION is an anti-capitalist media cooperative that strives to educate, challenge, and motivate, pushing the very boundaries of critical discourse in pursuit of inspiring radical change, actively informing the growth and development of mass movements fighting for social and environmental justice.

As designer and producer, I filmed and edited hour-long podcast episodes for Gravediggers Unite and Cultural Counterpower.

Rebranding

I was also involved in the comprehensive rebranding that included a new logo, titles, graphics and website.

When I developed the branding for Politics in Motion, I drew a lot of inspiration from El Lissitzky’s constructivist work. I wanted to create a visual identity that felt as dynamic and revolutionary as the political storytelling the organization promotes. By using bold primary colors—red, yellow, and blue—I aimed to evoke the sense of urgency and action that Lissitzky captured so effectively. The use of geometric shapes, like arrows and intersecting lines, was a deliberate nod to his work, bringing a sense of motion and energy to the brand, which aligns with our mission of pushing political engagement forward.

Opening Sequence for Cultural Counterpower

Inspired by El Lissitzky

I also leaned into Lissitzky’s use of assertive typography, choosing sans-serif fonts that feel direct and accessible, making the complex themes we explore approachable for everyone. The collage-style layout was another aspect I borrowed from his visual language—it layers images, text, and graphics in a way that creates a fluid and engaging experience, encouraging visitors to interact more deeply with the content.

To me, Lissitzky's philosophy of design as a tool for social change perfectly reflected what Politics in Motion is all about. By incorporating these constructivist elements, I aimed to create a brand identity that doesn’t just look impactful but also embodies the spirit of collective action and empowerment that defines our work.
